Below is a guide for your pre and post-waxing care. When followed, it will assist you in maintaining the clarity of your skin. And maximize the results of your treatment to ensure that you encounter as few service complications as possible.
Be mindful that the hair grows in 3 stages. If it is in the first or second stage, it can grow out within 2-5 days, and this is likely due to recent shaving, waxing, or depilatories. The ideal time to remove hair for a longer time with no regrowth is the third stage, the resting stage. Please understand that your esthetician cannot control the stage of your hair growth, which may encourage new hair growth, and your service will be final.
• Lightly exfoliate the area to be treated (please note that aggressive exfoliation will compromise the skin and make a waxing service inadvisable) • Take a mild anti-inflammatory. We recommended this for Brazilian and extended bikini waxes and will help to reduce the discomfort and swelling associated with these waxing. • Discontinue all use of retinoids and other chemical exfoliating agents for at least 72 hours. This is very important, and failure to do so could result in the lifting of the skin as these products compromise the integrity of the skin, including all topical prescription acne medication. • If you are a sunbather or frequent the tanning salon, you must stay out of the sun (artificial or not) for a minimum of 24 hours before your service. We will not perform waxing services if any redness due to sun exposure is present on the skin. This measure is taken solely for our clients’ safety and benefit. • If you enjoy exercising, please do so before your waxing appointment. We do not recommend exercising directly after due to the higher risk of causing a breakout. • Use a small amount of cortisone cream on hand to ease any irritation that you may experience.
Be prepared for all situations You can receive waxing services on your menstrual cycle, although you may experience a bit more sensitivity. Please wear a tampon; we have some available in our studio if needed.
Let it grow between waxes Your hair should be as long as a grain of rice. If you’ve been shaving, try and leave it as long as you can, three weeks would be ideal. If you’re a regular waxer, every 4-6 weeks is perfect for repeat appointments.
• Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 24 hours or until the tenderness subsides. • Avoid all mechanical and chemical exfoliating agents for at least 24 hours, including topical acne medication and retinoids. • Avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 12 hours. This is important if you are susceptible to break out as the bacteria naturally present on the skin and in perspiration are more easily able to enter the hair follicle and cause inflammation during this time. • Avoid hot tubs for a minimum of 12 hours as your skin is more easily able to absorb the chemical toxins present in most hot tubs. • Avoid fragranced products of all kinds (soaps, lotions, etc.) for at least 12 hours. • Avoid caffeine, including caffeine present in painkillers, as it will make your skin more sensitive. The same goes for a cup of coffee, please skip it before you get waxed. • Begin exfoliating 48 hours after your wax and continue to exfoliate 3 times per week to minimize the presence of ingrown hairs. If you suffer from ingrown hairs, it can be beneficial to discontinue using bar soaps as they contain ingredients that increase ingrown hairs. • For our sensitive clients, sorry, no sexy time. Any action down there, particularly sex, can lead to discomfort. It can cause excessive chaffing from friction on extra-delicate skin. Consider turning the first two days after your wax into cuddle time.
Give your skin a break After waxing services, there are restrictions on what you can do and apply. It’s best to avoid exercise, swimming, hot showers, tanning, saunas, and direct sun exposure for 24 hours. If you’re getting your upper lip or eyebrows done, avoid applying makeup afterward or touching your face as your pores are open, and it’s easy for bacteria to get in and for you to break out.
